With change comes opportunity as well as sacrifice. The old has to make way for the new. The old is certain for we know all the parameters, while the new is uncertain. The Stoics does not seem to focus much on life changes but focused more on consistency in terms of their expression of virtue. One should always seek out to push forward the expression of virtue through one’s own actions. With this constancy in mind one bolsters your defences against the ever changing environment. The Stoic saw these change as coming from Fortuna, both in terms of changes that are beneficial and those that are detrimental. But the truth is that we also are creative actors in the world and we create all the time through our thinking processes. Distinguishing between creative change and passive change is very important. Whatever the outcome we must take accountability for our own thoughts and the role they play in manifesting the reality that surrounds us. Man is empowered not only with the consciousness of self but also with a sense of self determination. We can manifest whatever change we want to manifest simply by deciding on a direction and acting on it, while maintaining momentum for that change through intent. Taking ownership of our decision making and its consequences are the hallmark of maturity as a human being. However the stronger position to take is not just to know that we are creative but to be continually purposeful in our creativeness. When we truly belief that we are creative and capable to act on our creative impulses then we cannot submit to daily problems and issues. Discouragement, hopelessness and depression are all symptoms that result from us losing faith in our own creative ability and the consequent shedding of our responsibilities to live within our nature. When we take up our responsibility we will search without fail for the creative breakthrough. We will not lose hope but will continue to work diligently and relentlessly towards finding the solution to find the pathway of manifesting our desires. Creative external change demands an internal change first and the primary change it requires is to foster an acceptance that we are creative by nature. Being creative is to mentally build a picture of the impossible and then allow us to build a path to our goal or to find the solution we desire. It does not however give us a carte blanche license to create whatever we like for our creation have to be checked past our sense of conscience. We need to align our creative efforts with the still voice of conscience that will tell if something is right or not. Hearing that voice clearly and accurately is not always easy. Regular practice of tuning in, to listen to the world is a prerequisite for developing one to align actions with conscience. Mystics strives continually to raise themselves up to their highest ideals and possibilities. Even in the midst of calamity, they hold firmly onto the idea that they can change misfortune to fortune if they want to do so. Individual creative thought is a powerful and a stimulus for living life fully when it becomes part of our conscious self-knowledge.
