Stepping up to your glory

I am still busy working slowly throught the book “your zodiac soul” and I am contemplating a set of questions relating to the starsign of Leo. Leo is strongly connected to the sun and it poses the question of how we express ourselves and the best of ourselves. Being a Stoic, this is a very important consideration for although I need to express myself with humility it also must be with a force and presence that makes a difference to everybody.

In what ways am I playing small and not stepping into the glory of who I really am?

This question requires from me to be both boastful on what I know I have but also humble in acknowledgement of what I am not fully offering the world.

I am a distinguished Toastmaster and has developed my communication skills especially when it comes to public speaking. I have not really been able to unlock this skill in my profession. I have used it where I can and embraced opportunities to apply this skill but I have not been able to design it as a persistent feature of a regular interaction. Maybe I need to start a vlog on Youtube at least for a few months and see where it leads me. But like with my blogging I am not that interested in impressing many people. In my life I try to connect with the few that will truly resonate with my thinking and thought. But maybe there is room to play the role of populism and focus on topics that truly makes a difference. But public speaking is definitely the one area I have neglected and which I should put into my plans to incorporate more effectively into my own workspace.

As an industrial engineer I have a particular systems perspective on the world and a skill to analys issues from a broader sperspective. I do not think in my professional life I give credence enough to this capability. I assume to much that other people should have a similar insight. I can make a more consistent effort to highlight issues, designs and solutions from a different systems perspective. I can still step up stronger into being a leader if I take up the time to really embrace my current role and aim to the highest level of professionalism within that role. I can step up by bringing my full professional background to the table and to use it as an effective communication tool to engage with different people towards increasing productivity and cost effectiveness.

As a mystic I am empowered with several techniques and tools to live my life optimally. It takes a constant shift in consciousness to move away from an intellectual and philosophical paradigm to applying these skills in the real world to address real world situations. In my personal life, work life and social life these skills add great value and yet I do not think I have even scratched the surface of what can actually be accomplished. I am still very much like a child playing in the safe area as if these tools and techniques are only toys. Where I have stepped up to actually use what I know the impact and effect was considerable and inspiring. I probably do not step up often enough for the simple reason that I follow old habits too easily rather than taking the time to focus my energy through a stronger magnifying glass.

So those are the three immediate areas I can think about that I need to step up in. I am sure there are many more but that is what I have time to write about. The aim for whomever might stumble on this blog entry is not to be informed about me not stepping up but hopefully these will serve as examples for a personal enquiry. I hope this entry will inspire people to consider the question by themselves:

Where do you fail to step up?

Youper – your AI assistant

Will you trust you heatlth and psycological well being in the heands of and artificial intelligence psycologist? The knee jerk reaction might be to say no, definitely not. I had been playing around with a app called Youper which claims to assist you to become the best version of yourself.

Youper is always learning from scientists who study the mind and the brain to help people live happier lives. Apparently Youper is based on artificial intelligence and it continues to evolve and learn from you the longer you use it.

This fancy little programming helps you by entering into a conversation with you. Unfortunately the dialog is more scripting than intelligent. I would have liked a variety of responses rather than the same boring conversation. However Youper has some interesting conceps. It helps you to become aware of your daily moods, very much like Daylio but it does a bit further in helping you to connect your emotions to one of eighteen emotions and then guide you to a mindfullness technique based on the emotion you identify with and to note the factors that contribute to your emotion.

The mindfulness techique good because it either enforces a positive emotion or assist you to deal with a negative emotion. Youper will also encourage you to say what your intentions are and what you are grateful for. I have not seen yet that it is actively using this information or whether it is just assisting you to think through the process. Unfortunately each discussion ends up in the same questions. Youper also has the ability to draw up a personality profile that seems to be fairly accurate as well as see a summary of factors that influence different emotions, equiping you to deal more effectively with some life areas. In the end it gives you a nice diary that can remind you of what feelings you had over time and what factors you associated with it.

Youper might still be clanky but it is the first steps in a new way of dealing with information. Youper certainly can help you to deal with negative emotions by guiding you to an appropriate mindfulness technique. I think in future apps like Youper will become more flexible in greeting you based on your typical pattern of behaviour, it will do information discovery to talk to you about the things that interest you. Off course somewhere there will be a marketing strategy to sell you a product or service that is just right for you based on these artificial conversations.

I see a time when we do not read books or search the internet but where we talk about our daily lifes and we are fed information that we need in the instant. It will teach us how to behave what to do to live a better life but it might also put inadvertably blinkers on our eyes to see only that which appeals to us directly. Artificial intelligence will develop a whole new way in which information is treated.
