My words are limited as I contemplate my life. There is no guarantee that my life philosophy is any better than any other person’s. Skill and knowledge does seem to make a difference when one looks at outcomes and achievements but does philosophy make a difference? The outcome of true philosophy can not be seen in terms of performance but must be seen in terms of growth in being. My working definition is that being is the degree of inner togetherness and wholeness. A man can achieve many things and yet lack in being. In fact attachments to outcomes is the temptation that will limit and restrict growth in being. Yet the contradictory truth is that when man lives purposefully and continue to strive to an outcome then being must be growing even if there is no intent to do so. Man without purpose or intent on the other side without any purpose who scatters his time and attention can not evolve his being. His life might still seem successful but he will remain where he is without any inner progress. What is the benefit of progress in being? For one it means a higher level of happiness and confidence. What is it worth to be a successful athlete that is concerned about the next race or to be rich and concerned about how to protect that wisdom. Inner togetherness is happiness independent of the outcomes while still having the desire to be purposeful.
This is wonderful! I love your last sentence!
I have lived my life with that in mind…joy and contentment within that is NOT based on circumstances or outcomes…a joy and contentment that comes from gratitude…thankful to be alive, thankful to love and be loved, etc.
And the desire to be purposeful…yes!
