IS: I am a beacon of calm amidst distractions. My thoughts are my instruments of power, guiding me to perceive my environment clearly. ~ Fortitude ~
The virtue of fortitude allowed me to remain steadfast. Agile, I bend like a palm tree in the wind. If my roots are deep within virtue, then firmness will be the fruit my life yields. Fortitude is a trust that I have the prowess to deal effectively with any challenge. Pressure teaches me what is really important and lack tutors me to be happy with less. These are the pointers to true freedom and personal liberation. Fortitude is about cultivating an attitude of strong will and the resolve to stand firm under all circumstances. Virtue upheld by a firm will, will endure confidently that which cannot be resisted. I accept as part of my life path the lessons I need to learn in order for me to experience the presence and full potential of myself.

We often refer to the world or nature in the female aspect the universal mother figure that nurtures us and that provides for us the sustenance we need to live life. This verse brings that existence of the creative, the nurturing, the sustaining in association with will. Will is the source of creation within us, the motherly impulse that nurtures and sustains us as we move through life. We can claim that we live because we will to live. And we live life fully when we claim to live life fully.
Everything begins and ends with what we will within ourselves for what we will, will impact on our consciousness and experience of the world. Will is our essential being and reason for existence and it has the potential to become the driving force that directs our lives irrespective of circumstances, challenges and obstacles in our way. Will is a fire that purifies the mind from its gross elements and that brings forward purity of thought, concentrated in a particular pattern. When we begin to get in touch with our own inner will and its creative possibilities we are beginning to feel our true self, our true individualistic nature. A perception of self that is uncontaminated and real. We feel within ourselves the essence of ourselves.
Life follows a path of twists and turns, leading us from one adventure to the next. We are in a continual process of self-definition because how we define ourselves changes with how we actualise our personality in life. What we actualise is more than those things we actualise in the physical world. The reality is that our physical body will wear down over time until it finally returns to dust. However we are also in a process of evolving our inner being or spiritual togetherness. Our essence is not limited by time and the process of aging. Will holds being together, love gives expression to being and wisdom grows being. All three are needed to evolve our being. Our inner will is independent from external circumstances. We live life fully when we learn that our inner will is an abundant source of energy that can wade through despair and conquer all challenges.
