~ on the equinox ~

On this equinox, let us take a moment to reflect on the importance of balance and harmony in our lives. As the seasons change, so too must we be flexible and adaptable in order to maintain balance and harmony within ourselves and with the world around us.

Heraclitus famously said that “everything flows” and that “change is the only constant.” He believed that the universe is in a state of constant flux, and that we must be flexible and adaptable in order to maintain balance and harmony in our lives.

Temperance requires self-control, and moderation requires us to choose to avoid extremes, even when there is abundance to enjoy. Abundance seldom lasts, and when we overindulge, the following lack will feel more extreme. Most of the time, extremes come with negative side effects, and they are seldom beneficial when totally absorbed.

The counterargument, of course, is that by never going to extremes, we limit our experience. I have always argued that the golden mean is our protection. If 100% is the extreme, then the extreme we can comfortably handle is 68% of the 100%. This is the golden mean rule I have put in place for myself. It requires a measure of mindfulness and wisdom to assess in various life situations where the golden mean extreme is.

In addition, it works with the rule of polarity, which states that we must not have the light without the shadow, the positive without the negative. We must have the flexibility and agility to flow freely between these two extremes of +68% and -68% extreme points. The rule of balance is not to get stuck in perpetual balance, but to always be balancing. Our state of balancing must be in harmony with the environment.

Abraham Maslow, the American humanist psychologist, wrote on the importance of self-actualization, which he defined as the realization of one’s full potential. He believed that we must achieve a balance between our needs and our values in order to self-actualize.

I encourage you to take some time today to reflect on your own life and identify areas where you can achieve greater balance and harmony. What are your needs and values? What are your strengths and weaknesses? How can you live a more balanced and harmonious life?

Remember, balance and harmony are not destinations, but rather journeys. It’s important to be patient and kind to yourself as you work towards achieving them.

~ to balance ~

I woke up this morning thinking about balance. It seems to be a recurring theme in my life, both financially and physically.

On the financial side, I’m always amazed at how things seem to balance out in the end. I might receive money from one source and then have to spend it on something else, but it always seems to work out in the end. I believe that this is because I’m living in alignment with my values and goals. When I’m focused on what’s important to me, the money seems to follow.

On the physical side, I’m also paying attention to balance. I’ve been walking barefoot on the ground and sun gazing, which are two natural ways to ground myself and balance my energy. I’m finding that these practices are helping me to feel more centered and connected to the earth.

As I reflected on these two aspects of my life, I realized that they are actually interconnected. When I’m financially balanced, I have more freedom to focus on my physical and emotional well-being. And when I’m physically and emotionally balanced, I’m better able to make sound financial decisions.

It’s all about balance. When we find balance in our lives, everything seems to flow more smoothly. We feel more grounded, centered, and in control.

As Suze Orman would say, “Money is just a tool. It’s how you use it that matters.” When we use money as a tool for good, it can help us to create a more balanced and fulfilling life.

I’m still on my journey to find balance, but I’m grateful for the insights that I’ve gained so far. I know that as I continue to focus on my values and goals, I’ll continue to move towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.

~ balance and harmony ~

I am filled with immense gratitude for this day, which has brought me bountiful blessings at a time of great need. The old, true, and trusted formula of manifesting solutions has once again shown itself to be working. As an added bonus, I received confirmation that there is benefit to doing rune yoga barefoot. So, my day has sorted out the balance between need and supply, as well as an upward movement on health and well-being. These two things might seem unrelated, but today they bring one message of balance.

The balance is restored, and that may be the most powerful lesson to learn today. It is more difficult to shift the point of balance than to rebalance the focus around us. This means that we are much better at maintaining a situation than shifting to a new level.

The balance starts with the body. Our bodies are the strongest connection we have with the Earth or material world. Therefore, it makes sense to balance our thoughts and emotions with our body being balanced first. We can rely on the body’s balance to assist in the process of balancing thought and emotion. To heal is to restore balance and bring harmony to the body.

One method that seems to be strengthened in this approach is to do yoga barefoot. This means creating a space outside conducive to outdoor practice. I am grateful for my newfound balance, and I am grateful for having the means to bring balance to my body. I can feel the energy within me flowing stronger, and my confidence is building. This truly exemplifies the words of Odin, “Deeds shape with deeds into deeds.”

I hope this brings a new venture into this world, and I seek balance in all I do. That is the gift I can bring to the world as a Libra.

Balancing

“What am I balancing in my life at the moment?” Being extremely busy it is probably a time to stand still and reflect on the priorities I am balancing in life. I am still working slowly through the book “Your soul zodiac” and currently I am reading about Libra. A topic of keen interest to me since I am myself a Libra. I do believe we are perpetually in a process of balancing priorities. It is wrong to assume that live is about balance where balance is static…rather life is a process of balancing. We are actively making changes to our lives in slight adjustments to new and neglected priorities. Since I always want to do many things I inevitably get to points where some things get forgotten and life pushes me into a direction where priorities are skewed.

One of the most important balancing acts is that of maintaining a healthy life style. Finding the balance between sitting at an office working hard to achieve professional goals and at the same time having the time to exercise. In my last few weeks my work environment has shifted so dramatically into the desired direction that my physical exercising is lacking. I do primarily Yoga and Tai Chi for my physical health and I simply neglected my efforts as a result. I doubt if my life will self-correct in terms of professional work pressure in the next two months. Balancing back to a proper disciplined physical regime will take substantial planning and will power.

On a mental level I try to balance again work demands with time for meditation. Even with in this regard the wave of work has brought my meditation practices to a minimum. I feel almost too tired to meditate properly. I especially appreciate the simplicity of the 5 Reiki principles, of which I remind myself daily in the morning. It takes less than a minute to stand still and remind myself: Just for today I will not worry, I will not get angry, I will count my blessings, I will do my work and I will be good to all living creatures.  As a matter of fact it can be said in about ten seconds and make a significant change in how I approach my day.  I have been writing more poetry in the last few weeks which was a way of balancing mentally between analytical thinking in my profession with delving into the harmony of beauty that can be invoked by writing poetry. My mental frame of mind is constantly strengthened with my Stoic focus on attempting to live a virtuous life at all times. Working at eliminating vice and developing virtues as a habit provides an incredibly strong base for finding a mental balance.

The base provided by virtue also assist in the balancing of my emotions. I am in the fortunate position to have people very dear to me that frequently attempt to upset my emotional balance. As a Libra that loves to please people, it is often unsettling when people arround me gets emotionally angry, upset or offensive. I naturally prefer a state of peace and harmony where everybody works together. In the last year I focused on being less affected by other people’s emotions and drama. It does not make me numb to them but it allows me to approach them with greater compassion and understanding.  It takes considerable strenght of character not to be drawn in to the emotional upheavels of others but rather to remain in a calm and peaceful state.  Sometimes emotional moments can be totally void of any reason and that used to tempt me into becoming frustrated and even angered for not being able to find that point of balance and harmony I am seeking so avidly. But I am working on it and I find more and more that I can allow people their own complexity and choice in how they deal with their emotions.

Professionally I have several projects and priorities competing at the moment for my dedicated attention.  These priorities are much more driven by external factors than I would like to acknowledge. As a Stoic one tries to buffer yourself against external winds so that you can maintain your course. In a sense you want to host your sails in the wind irrespective of the direction of the wind. That is truly the key to a life of balancing external forces so that they do not perturb too much the direction you are going but rather just allow you adapt to keep your original course of action.

So how do we live a life of balancing:

  1. Approach balance as a verb not a state to be achieved.
  2. Balance the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of your life.
  3. Maintain an awareness of how life moves and shifts in your life.
  4. Be flexible to adjust to changes in your life, opportunities and momentum.
  5. Understand what is truly important to you.
  6. It is ok to neglect some priorities for a while but do not forget or abandon them.
  7. A small action everyday can become the vocal point for balancing the larger part of your life.
  8. It is easier to balance priorities if you keep up a healthy set of habits as a base for balancing.
  9. Solidifying virtues in your life as the central balancing force and buffer against external influences.
  10. Internal balancing is essential to balance external conditions and situations.
