A special gift to the world.

What is my special gift to the world?

We are so often told not to be proud, not to boast etc. that we reduce our own image of what we have to offer to the world. We down play our contributions so that we do not look too arrogant. Yes I am always reminded that humility means the be yourself, no more and no less.  We have to acknowledge what our talents are and what makes us unique. In a world of 7.6 billion people uniqueness in any talent can be challenged. There seem to be always somebody better so we have to seek impecability and say in which gift to we give the best of what we are able to give. Even if our special gift is average in a broader context but special in terms of our own ability we need to strive towards impecability.

I have alwasy maintained that my biggest contribution is synergy. The ability to bring opposing views together or to find out how two seemingly unrelated topics have a connection. On a practical level it means that I am exceptionally good within meetings for example to strip the frivoulous from the essential and bring the discussion to a clear conjecture. Where other people get confused in a plethora of opinions I have an ability to sift out the key principles and often to reconcile even seemingly opposing viewpoints. It makes me a good peacemaker. With that ability my Stoicism gives me the equanimity required to remain consistent even when emotions flair up uncontrollably.  Being able to integrate and unite things often pushes me into leadership positions where I can guide people into considering new viewpoints and challenge their own viewpoints. I do that with a measure of consistency and determination. My ability to persist, to remain passionate is often the factors that take my gift of synergy to a nest level. When the two combines then the outcome is momentum advancing continuious progressive innovation and transformation.

That is not just a summary of my gift but it also directs my mission in life.  Momentum implies the ability to generate the thought, actions and support and slowly building it up until the process continuous without my assistance. Advancing means it is something that strives ever towards something better, making a better contribution. Progressive means a forward and expansive movement towards an ideal a dream and or a vision for what is possible. Innovation implies new thinking. I often contribute new ideas and passion into situations that offers a new way of thinking about things. Transformation means change. I drive change and make change happen. There is an old addage: “I do not create rumours but I am the roumour” that has a ring of truth to it.

My special gift is not just new ideas nor even inpiring ideas but the tenacity to generate the energy and collective will to realise those ideas.

Preoccupations

What are the main dilemmas that preoccupy me and what might be the source of my doubts?

As a reiki master I affirm to myself the 5 reiki spiritual principle on a daily basis and one of those principles is not to worry. As a Stoic my focus is on those things that are within my control. I can say with ease that my mind is not too much occupied with worries and concerns even when thre might be grounds for worry. I rather place the focus on actions I can take. This approach brings a huge relief from stress and tension. If we can avoid stress and tension in the first place we need less effort to work on the effects of those stresses on our body.  I have to reflect on this then from the perspective that I have done a lot of work in my own pshychology to avoid wasting energy on preoccupation.

As I mentioned before my weakness is probably financial management and it is consequently also interestingly enough the area of most concern for me. My preoccupation is often due to pressure that certain things have to be paid when the funds are not available and a strategy needs to be developed to either get the required funds available or alternatively to get a feasible way to postpone the pressure until the required funds becomes available. Financial management is an area I need to improve in. My current total value is positive in terms that my assets do exceed my debts. The concern I have wrote about before is not survival in the present moment but survival when I can no longer deliver value through physical or mental work to earn and income. It will be opportune to make provision for that time but present needs negate such an approach.  In living life fully I have opted to use what I earn optimally and not to waste it on luxury or things not needed.

The roman philosopher Senneca wrote: “Remember continually what a noble thing it is to round out your life before death comes, and then await in peace the remaining portion of your time, claiming nothing for yourself, since you are in possession of the happy life; for such a life is not made happier for being longer. ”

A second thing that has preoccupied my mind a lot is the question about the legacy I will be leaving behind. When I did history as a child I had dreams of being like the great hero’s that will be remembered accross time for something significant that I have done or discovered. However that dream has shrunk with time. So far I have not done or worte something that has had such a phenomenal impact on the world or even my local society. Many people adviced me that I set my standards to high.  I personal coach convinced me to focus on the smaller things I do do. Currently my legacy opportunity lies in some of my spiritual writing, in the nature of the work I am doing. My memory and impact will probably carry on for 5 years after my death. Then people will forget about me. It posed the question…why do you want to be remembered? So currently I have shifted my preoccupation of leaving a legacy and focus on adding value to the lifes of the people I meet in my life. Every day there is opportunities to make a difference for somebody and while I am capable it is part of my mission to optimise the value I bring into this life while I am alive.
